Guardian Group leads Coastal Clean-Up efforts at Hart’s Cut Bay

Guardian Group joined the Institute of Marine Affairs on Saturday 14th September, 2024 to collect and dispose of garbage along Hart’s Cut Bay, Chaguaramas ahead of the global commemoration of International Coastal Clean-up Day to be held later this month. More than 50 Guardian Group employees came out to support this exercise which demonstrated their commitment to environmental stewardship.

Approximately 531 pounds of garbage, which comprised plastics, glass and miscellaneous waste, was collected along the coast. The beach clean-up formed part of a data collection exercise by the Institute of Marine Affairs as part of its research to support sustainable management of the nation’s coastlines and the threat of global climate change to small island developing nations.

According to Mr. Ian Chinapoo, Group Chief Executive Officer, “Environmental Social and Governance issues are important pillars of our business. As insurers, managing risk and taking preventative action to protect the environment is critical to our community and to providing financial protection and peace of mind to our clients. Our involvement in this beach clean-up is a demonstration of this commitment.”

Keesha Sahadeo, Group Chief Financial Officer and Chair of Guardian Group’s Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) Committee commended employees for their participation and underscored the importance of everyone doing their part to create a sustainable future for our children and communities.

International Coastal Clean-up is an annual global event that engages organisations and individuals to remove garbage and other debris from beaches and waterways.
